Craig McChesney's Boring Web
Also available in presentation modeā¦
I'm currently employed by a large investment bank, where I develop and manage automated trading systems. And my life isn't really that boring (at least I don't think so) - but you'll find that many things on this web site are indeed boring. If you're in a similar occupation, maybe you know the reaction - somebody at a party asks what you do for a living and 2 sentences into your response their eyes are glossed over and they're looking for an escape route.
If you're just wondering what's new around here, check out the recent updates page. If you really want to keep up with what's new, you can subscribe to changes via RSS.
I've tried to bury most of the boring stuff in the technobabble folder. There you'll find many exciting things from my current and previous lives, mostly related to software development but also some of the problem domains I've worked in like finance, particle accelerators, complex adaptive systems, and artificial intelligence. My typical approach to solving technical problems involves piecing together work done by others and documented on the internet - so I hope to return the favor some how via the things in this folder.
The blogs folder contains less boring entries about my daily life including travel, sports, music, parenting - and other miscellaneous rants, raves, and rambles.
The galleries folder is a collection of photo albums with a variety of subjects like the kids, travel, family, and sports. The bookmarks folder is my way of managing links in a portable way that I can get to from anywhere. The misc folder is a catchall for things that don't fit any of the other places - like my resume! The news folder is news about the web site itself. I don't use it much, but as I change things about how the web site works I might say something there.
